Why do airlines sell too many tickets?

Answer is to make more profit

Do you know airlines are selling more tickets that they have available on airplanes?

Because they know that some of the people even though they bought the ticket will not show up and miss the flight.

Using all the data they have from the previous years, they predict how many people might miss the flight and in order to make more profit they end up selling same seat to more than one people.
